Sikh Youth Australia

Culture Care

The Culture Care team recognised that the Sikh and Punjabi community has rates of diabetes and cardiovascular disease that are amongst the highest in Australia!

Culture Care is a social healthcare initiative developed by senior youth from Sikh Youth Australia. The Culture Care team have developed an app to assist with screening for diabetes and cardiovascular disease and holds pop-up clinics across Australia to provide this screening and early detection service to the Punjabi and migrant community.

At Pop-Up Clinics, volunteers engage community members in a fun way to encourage the entire family to participate in a basic assessment of vital signs. Basic non-invasive tests are conducted at the Pop-Up Clinic, including assessing Blood Pressure, Weight, Body Mass Index (BMI), Waist Circumference and Glucose testing. Doctors and nurses attend and provide a one-on-one consultation with each person who comes through the clinic to review and assess the results and provide recommendations and tips on where to proceed
