Prof. Jaswant enlightens audiences during fantastic National Seminar Tour

MORE than 300 Sikhs from all over Sydney and Queensland shared a unique religious experience over a recent September weekend. The workshops were held in Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast and attracted attendees from different walks of life.
They were all part of the audience attending a special seminar on Sikhism organised by Sikh Youth Australia and conducted by Professor Jaswant Singh from Singapore. The event was open to all and was run over the first two weeks of September 2011 in Sydney and Queensland.
Professor Jaswant Singh, a leading world scholar on the Guru Granth Sahib who is known to the Australian Sikh Sangat for his lectures at SYA’s Summer Camps, shared his views on Sikhism and took his audience on a back to basics journey. For many in the audience his explanation of the Japji Sahib provided new insights into the religion. His discussions on ritualism and the teachings of the Gurus in the Sri Guru Granth Sahib were also enlightening for the audience.
SYA Project Managers Gurpreet Singh (Sydney) and Satvinder Singh (Queensland) said that the seminar was a success thanks largely to the volunteers who had worked hard to ensure everything went smoothly. They also commended the assistance received from the Sydney Gurdwaras, Brisbane Sikh Temple, Logan Road Sikh Community Centre Inala, Gold Coast Sikh Association and Satvingroup Pty. Ltd. in making the project possible.
Gurpreet Singh added that SYA hopes to hold more of such seminars for Sangat around Australia next year following the success and demand of this year’s venture.
For those who missed Professor Jaswant Singh’s sessions, he will be back in Sydney as a facilitator at SYA’s 14th annual Summer Camp to be held at the Sydney Academy of Sport and Recreation, Narrabeen from the 3rd to 8th of January 2012. With over 350 participants attending each year, the SYA Summer Camp has a relaxed, family atmosphere and caters for youth, young adults, parents and seniors. Sessions are grouped by age and there are plenty of fun activities over the 5 days.
