A prominent member of our community has been appointed to a very high profile position with the Reserve Bank of Australia.
Mr Sarvjit Singh Girn, a mentor at the SYA youth leadership camps, will from Sept 3, 2012, take up the position of Chief Information Officer with the Reserve Bank of Australia.
Before joining the Reserve Bank, Sarv was serving as an executive consultant to the CIO at Qantas. Prior to that, he was Westpac Group General Manager of Enterprise Technology Services. He left that post in 2011. Banking IT sources say that Sarv “is one of the most experienced and highly regarded banking IT executives in Australia, having held a variety of senior technology and chief information security officer roles at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia and Westpac. ’’
In announcing the appointment of Sarv as CIO, the Reserve Bank said that “Mr Girn was selected for the role from a strong field of applicants, internal and external to the Bank.’’
It added that “Mr Girn has most recently been an Executive Consultant to the Chief Information Officer at Qantas and has previously held strategic and transformational executive IT positions at both Westpac and the Commonwealth Bank. He holds a Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) degree from the University of London and his career in the financial services industry in Australia, the UK and Asia spans 25 years.”
He joined the Reserve Bank on September 3, assuming responsibility for “strategic leadership in transforming and developing … core IT functions” to support its policy, operational and corporate objectives.
Sarv is one of many prominent Sikhs presently making their mark in Australia and is showing Sikh youth that you can be leaders in your chosen field of endeavor without having to sacrifice your Sikh religious ideals or values.
