Jaspreet’s Moment of Madness: The Day Draws Near

As many of you know, I’ve been training for the last 2 and a half months for the 2km Cole Classic Ocean swim on February 5th, 2012. I’ve been doing this to raise funds for cancer research, and together with all my supporters we’ve raised $610. It’s still a long way yet to the goal of $2000!

This is week 9 of a 14 week training program, and what a journey it has been so far! There were many moments (in fact, there still are moments), when I’m in the pool, or just lying awake at night, staring at the ceiling in terror, wondering what I was thinking. “There’s absolutely no way that I can do this! 2km is way too long! $2000 is way too much! You better just give up now before you make a fool of yourself.”

Even though those thoughts are still there, I have made a lot of progress. I can swim a LOT further than when I first started out (in fact, I can do the 2km distance, it just takes awhile!) and I am so much more confident swimming out in the ocean. Swimming out in the ocean is actually one of the biggest hurdles I’ve had to overcome.

Even with all this fear though, I’ve learnt to relax. I’ve learnt to change the negative self-talk to positive self-talk, and this has made all the difference. Whilst I’m definitely not the fastest swimmer out there, the important thing is that I’m actually out there, doing something I never thought I would or could do.

I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported me so far, both with your donations and kind words. But February 5th is still some time off and I still need a lot of support to get me through the toughest month of training! I would be so grateful if you could donate any amount at all, or just pass the message on.

Let’s help Jaspreet out by donating online at the Can Too Donation Page. Remember every donation over $2 is tax deductible.

Let’s cure cancer together!
