On Sunday August 5th, at a Gurdwara in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, a lone gunman opened fire on Sikhs in the early hours of the morning. Six were killed with three others in a critical condition.

With the kind support of the Australian Government Organ and Tissue Authority, SYA conducted ground breaking workshops in Sydney and Melbourne on the status of Organ and Tissue Donation in the context of Sikhism and the teachings of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. With the help of Prof Jaswant Singh of the University of Patiala and Jaspreet Sidhu (Department of Health, Victoria) SYA helped to raise much needed awareness about this issue within the Australian Sikh community.
