The Sikh Youth Australia camps have been running since 1999. From humble beginnings, the camps have flourished with two youth camps held each year and hundreds of Sikh youth attending. SYA organises these camps in line with their mission statement, and organisational aims which can be read in the ‘Our Mission’ section of the website.
Briefly, the Youth camps have a strong Gurmat focus and are designed to instil Sikh values and educate children on Sikh principles and concepts, ie. Naam Japna, Vand Chakna and Kirat Karni. Children are split into age groups and sessions are held at a relevant intellectual level. That’s not all though, the other side of the camp is the fun and activities! The camps are held at Dept. of Sport and Recreation facilities, which means that everybody is allowed to engage in exciting activities like Kayaking, Rock Climbing, and Archery etc.
The Leadership camp is designed for a more mature age group. Targeted at youth 18 years and over, this camp deals with the relevance of Sikhism, it’s principles and teachings to their professional lives. It also focuses more generally on employment skills and personal development. The leadership camps are facilitated by highly successful Sikhs including entrepreneurs, executives and even post-graduate students. The leadership camps are also a great networking opportunity.
In this section you will find further specific details regarding the camps, such as location, time of the camp, cost, information on the facilitators and a downloadable brochure which allows you to register yourself online for the camp. There is information for people who’ve never been to such a camp so that they can gain an understanding of what will be in store for them. There is also a frequently-asked questions page to lend more assistance.
